Lindsay Lohan has a chance to join the cast of drama movie "Machete" if she is keen on doing it, director Robert Rodriguez has stated. Being interviewed by MTV when he dropped by to promote his upcoming adventure film "Shorts", the filmmaker informally stated that there is a vacant role for the "Mean Girls" star in the Danny Trejo-starring movie

Although Rodriguez refused to answer whether he is interested to have Lohan as a part of the movie, he did praise the actress, saying "Lindsay's cool." The man behind "Sin City" then added, "There's actually cool part in the movie for her if she takes it." However, it wasn't mentioned whether Lohan has been auditioned for any role in the movie or what kind of role meant by Rodriguez.

Planned to be released in 2010, "Machete" is an expansion of the fake trailers for Robert Rodriquez and Quentin Tarantino double feature, "Grindhouse". The story centers on a Mexican ex-Federal agent with a gift for wielding a blade, who hides out as a day laborer, who is double-crossed by a corrupt state senator.

As stated by director Robert Rodriguez during the interview, the film will begin its "shooting in a couple weeks." The studio is still "casting right now". The only official cast members so far are Danny Trejo and Michelle Rodriguez, while there were rumors that Robert De Niro might have a role in the film.

As for Lindsay Lohan, the actress/singer is famous for her role in "Georgia Rule" and "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen". She is currently attached to star in fantasy comedy "The Other Side" and musical film "Dare to Love Me". Her latest appearance was in TV movie "Labor Pains" which was aired on ABC Family on July 19.

"I can't say too much about it," Rodriguez teased when we caught up with him at Comic-Con. "Except that we start shooting in a couple weeks!"

If you still haven't seen the "Machete" trailer that he shot with veteran-supporting-actor Danny Trejo, then by all means check it out immediately. Then, prepare yourself for two hours of the "set-up, double-crossed and left for dead" illegal immigrant who "knows the score, gets the women ... and kills the bad guys!"

"These things come together very quickly. We're casting right now, and the script just came out great," Rodriguez explained of the flick, whose green light was fueled solely by the immense fan love given to that 2:44-second clip. "I was thinking it had to live up to the trailer, because the trailer was so well received. But [the script] far surpassed the trailer."

While the original trailer starred actors like Cheech Marin, the real movie plans to have even bigger stars in on the joke. "We've cast nobody but Danny and Michelle Rodriguez, but we've sent the script out to a lot of people," Rodriguez grinned, despite Jonah Hill's recent confirmation that he's considering a role. "There are a lot of people we're sending it to, big names -- but nobody that we've signed yet."

Rodriguez didn't exactly shoot down the rumored name of Robert DeNiro, either. "I can't say, you'll have to wait and see," the director said. "Next week, or maybe the week after, probably while we're actually shooting."

The filmmaker did confirm, however, that a certain embattled former teen queen is indeed one of the recipients of his recent script solicitations. "Lindsay's cool," Rodriguez said. "There's actually a cool part in the movie for her -- if she takes it."

If it's the part of the senator's daughter, we can't see how Lindsay could say no. But this much seems certain: Once cameras start rolling on Robert Rodriguez's real "Machete," it's going to make for one hell of a commercial.

"The new trailer is going to be magnificent," he promised. "It's going to be really great."
