Two pieces of new evidence have suggested that the stricken Air France jet broke up over a number of minutes, rather than in one catastrophic incident. Firstly, bodies from Flight 447 had been picked up from locations more than 50 miles apart, the Brazilian Air Force revealed.
And secondly, a re-analysis of the plane's last automatic transmissions indicated many parts had malfunctioned before it plunged into the Atlantic.
Manufacturer Airbus told customers the investigation re-enforced the belief that the parts measuring air speed were the first to fail.
The plane's three speed sensors, or Pitot tubes, are likely to have malfunctioned four hours into the flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris, according to pilot union officials who examined the data.
Sky News has also learned that automated messages showed a gradual change in the cabin pressure shortly before the plane crashed.
This could suggest that the plane was either climbing or descending, and could again dismiss the idea of an explosion or a catastrophic break up.
Meanwhile, two terror suspects who died alongside 226 other passengers on the stricken jet have been ruled out as a cause of the disaster.
The two men only "shared the same name" as known Islamic radicals, posthumous security checks found.
Although their bodies have yet to be recovered, France's Interior Ministry confirmed that a "deep and wide-ranging investigation has allowed us to clear them".
The announcement came as the urgent hunt for the flight's black boxes was boosted by the introduction of a French nuclear submarine.
Emeraude will trawl 13 square miles a day, using sonar to attempt to pick up the boxes' acoustic beacons before they begin fading in three weeks' time.
Brazilian searchers in charge of recovering floating bodies and debris say the surface search area has now widened into Senegalese waters.
Ocean currents have pushed the remnants far and wide since the jet went down on June 1 on route to Charles de Gaulle International airport.
The black boxes provide the best hope of unravelling the cause of the worst aviation accident since 2001.

G8 Attack Plot: Police Arrested Suspects In Raids
Italian police arrested six people Thursday in raids on a group of suspected radical leftists who were allegedly planning a terror attack, authorities said.
Italian police have thwarted a suspected plot to attack the G8 summit which world leaders including Barack Obama and Gordon Brown are due to attend.
Six people were arrested and accused of criminal association for the purposes of terrorism and arms possession, anti-terrorist police chief Lamberto Giannini said.
Officers reportedly seized weapons including a bomb during the raids in Rome, Milan and Genoa.
The suspects had maps of the summit's closed-circuit surveillance system and "were trying to figure out how to bypass the security systems," Mr Giannini said.
The investigation into the alleged plot started two years ago when the summit was scheduled to be held on the Sardinian island of La Maddalena.
Italy's Prime Minister changed the venue to L'Aquila following the earthquake which claimed 295 lives there in April.
Silvio Berlusconi said he made the decision to "show solidarity" with the victims during the G8 meeting on July 8-10.
He argued that millions of euros could be saved by moving the summit to a more modest location and said anti-globalisation campaigners would be less likely to stage protests in a disaster zone.
The suspected plotters shifted their attention to target the new venue, according to Italian newspapers Corriere della Sera and La Stampa.
They were trying to "reconstitute a formation similar to the Red Brigades", a terrorist group who carried out attacks in Italy in the 1970s and 1980s, Mr Giannini said.
Among those arrested were Luigi Fallico, a former member of the Red Brigades, and Gianfranco Zoia, who was arrested in the 1990s for membership of an armed gang.
The Interior Ministry said the group was preparing an attack in La Maddalena, an island off Sardinia that had originally been selected to host the Group of Eight summit next month.
The summit has been moved to L’Aquila in central Italy to draw attention to the region and boost its economy after it was struck by a devastating earthquake in April.
Police officials said the plans for the terror attack had been in their infancy, with the suspects studying how they could get around security in La Maddalena.
Five people were taken to jail and one was placed under house arrest in the anti-terror operation that included raids in Rome, Milan and Genoa.
One of the suspects had been close to the Red Brigades, the leftist group that plagued Italy with attacks in the 1970s and 1980s, and was allegedly working to recreate the militant organization.
“The operation is of exceptional importance because it stopped the reorganization of armed violence in Italy,” Interior Minister Roberto Maroni said.

David Letterman 'Makes Rape Jokes' About Palin's Teen
TV host David Letterman has been criticised for making "sexually perverted" comments and "rape jokes" about Sarah Palin's teenage daughter.
David Letterman deftly played it both ways on Wednesday's "Late Show" as he apologized for wisecracks aimed earlier in the week at Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and one of her teenage daughters -- even as he milked the situation for more laughs.

Pete Doherty On Drink Drive And Drug Charges
Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty has been charged with drink-driving and possession of a Class A drug.
Gloucestershire Police said he was also charged with dangerous driving and driving without a licence or insurance.
He was taken into custody after police noticed him driving "erratically" around Gloucester.
The arrest took place about 30 minutes after the musician finished playing a solo performance at the city's Guildhall.
Earlier, a police spokesman said: "At approximately 12.30am officers on patrol in Eastgate Street saw a car being driven erratically, it continued down Barton Street and was stopped in Derby Road.

The 30-year-old Babyshambles and ex-Libertines singer was stopped after midnight in Gloucester when officers spotted a car "being driven erratically".
The arrest came half an hour after the singer had reportedly charmed an audience of 300 with an acoustic set at the city's Guildhall.
Doherty, who is a former boyfriend of model Kate Moss, has been remanded in custody and will appear before magistrates in Stroud later.
He is charged with drink-driving, dangerous driving, possession of a Class A drug and driving without a valid licence or insurance.
A 30-year-old London woman, who was arrested with him on suspicion of drug possession, has been released without charge.
The pair were arrested in a car at 12.30am in Derby Road, off Barton Street, after he finished a well-received show.
His latest solo album, Grace/Wastelands, was attributed to Peter Doherty, rather than Pete, which critics saw as a sign of growing maturity.
Earlier, a Gloucestershire Police spokesman confirmed that a 30-year-old man from Marlborough, Wiltshire, was being held.
A spokesman said: "At approximately 12.30am on June 11, officers on patrol in Eastgate Street, Gloucester, saw a car being driven erratically.

Ben and his friends had been to a bar in Islington, north London, on June 29 last year to celebrate the end of their GCSE exams when a row broke out and Ben was chased down the street and then stabbed to death.
Although the confrontation had nothing to do with him, Ben was stabbed 11 times in five seconds by the three youths in revenge for the "disrespect" shown to Braithwaite earlier.
After the verdicts, it emerged Kika had been on the run from police for 10 days following a robbery in which a man was knifed on June 19.
Three other youths were arrested but despite extensive searches and inquiries, Kika was not found until he was arrested for Ben's murder at a flat in Chadwell Heath, east London, on June 30.
The 21-year-old robbery victim, who appeared to have been involved in a row about drugs, refused to press charges.
Alleyne was being supervised by the local youth offending team as part of an 18-month detention and training order for drug dealing.
He had been released three months earlier after serving half the sentence in a detention centre.
Officers swooped on him when they saw a car being driven “erratically” through the town. Doherty was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, possession of drugs, and failing to stop.

Osama Bin Laden Is In Pakistan: CIA Chief
Washington - CIA Director Leon Panetta said on Thursday the U.S. intelligence agency believes al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden is hiding in Pakistan and hopes joint operations with Pakistani forces will find him.
Asked whether he was sure that bin Laden was in Pakistan, Panetta told reporters: "The last information we had, that's still the case."
Bin Laden, who has eluded a U.S. manhunt since the September 11, 2001, attacks, has issued audio and videotapes over the years demonstrating that he is still alive.

He added: "One of our hopes is that the Pakistanis move in militarily, combined with our operations, we may be able to have a better chance" to find him.
He also said al Qaeda "remains the most serious security threat" to the United States and its leaders, particularly in Pakistan, continue to plot against America.
There are "a number of people" on the ground in Pakistan providing intelligence on al Qaeda targets to the US, he said.

Meanwhile, the leader of al Qaeda in Afghanistan has reportedly said militants are short of food, weapons and other supplies needed to fight foreign forces there.
On a website used by top al Qaeda leaders and other militants to post statements, Mustafa Abu al-Yazid said: "In Afghanistan, we have a severe supply deficit.
"The main reason for the weakness in operations is insufficient supplies.
"Many mujahedeen sit and wait and cannot fight for lack of supplies."
Yazid called on Turks to provide money and supplies for al Qaeda forces in Afghanistan, appealing to their common Muslim identity, and called for Turks to pray for the militants.

Swine Flu Declared A Global Pandemic From WHO
The World Health Organisation has declared a swine flu pandemic, raising its alert level to the maximum of six.
It does not mean the virus has become more deadly, just that its geographical spread is now global.
The WHO warned that countries already hit by the virus should prepare for a "second wave" of cases.
The number of infections has climbed in the United States, Europe, Australia, South America and elsewhere.
It is the first global pandemic for 41 years. The virus first emerged in Mexico in April and has now spread to 74 countries with a reported 27,000 cases and 141 deaths.
Twenty-five new cases have been confirmed in the UK, bringing the total number to 822. There have been no deaths.
A Department of Health spokesperson said: "The localised cases of swine flu found in the UK have so far been generally mild in most people, but are proving to be severe in a small minority of cases.
"We are continuing to work to slow the spread of the disease and to put in place arrangements to ensure that the UK is well-placed to deal with this new infection."
In a statement to member countries, the WHO said it decided to raise the pandemic alert level from phase five to six.
The decision was made after the UN health agency held an emergency meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, on swine flu with its experts.
Moving to phase six will trigger a large scale production of vaccines and prompt governments to devote more money towards efforts to contain the virus.
It will also raise questions about why the step was delayed for weeks as the virus continued to spread.
The WHO has urged countries not to close borders or restrict travel and trade.
It said: "At this early stage, the pandemic can be characterised globally as being moderate in severity. We remain in close dialogue with influenza vaccine manufacturers."
According to the WHO's own pandemic criteria, a global outbreak means a new flu virus is spreading in at least two world regions.
Sky's health correspondent Thomas Moore said any move to declare a pandemic did not mean the virus itself was growing in potency.
He explained: "This is a marker if you like of geographical spread. It's not an indication that the virus is becoming more severe."
GlaxoSmithKline is already working with a key ingredient of the swine flu vaccine to see how quickly doses can be produced.
And other major pharmaceuticals like Sanofi Pasteur have also been working on a vaccine after WHO gave them a "seed stock" of the virus last month.
However, drug giants say it could take up to six months before large amounts of a swine flu vaccine are available.
After an emergency meeting, the World Health Organization (WHO) has finally declared a global flu pandemic, a first in 40 years after the 1968 Hong Kong flu that killed approximately 1 million people. Health authorities admit, however, that ‘the current pandemic seems to be moderate and causing mild illness in most people.’
Professor John Oxford, a flu expert, says that the virus spread of Influenza A (H1N1), formerly called swine flu, has indeed gone ‘global and fulfilling the requirements of a pandemic.’
‘Reports of several pockets of community spread’ have convinced WHO authorities to declare a level six pandemic. Another reason behind the latest declaration is that ‘the virus seems to be crowding out normal seasonal influenza’ in the southern hemisphere. The pandemic level alert also means that the ‘virus is spreading in at least two regions of the world.’ Swine flu cases have been rising in the UK, Australia, Japan, and Chile.
The WHO, however, has explained that the pandemic alert level ‘does not necessarily mean the virus is causing more severe illness or more deaths.’
Since its first case in Mexico in April, the Influenza A (H1N1) virus has spread to 74 countries. According to the latest WHO update of 11 June 2009 14:00 GMT, 74 countries have officially reported 28,774 cases of influenza A(H1N1) infection, including 144 deaths.
The vaccine specific to Influenza A (H1N1) is now under development. The earliest doses will be available by October.

R Reynolds Reveals Sandra Bullock 'Looks Terrific Naked'
What are some things about Sandra Bullock you wouldn't know just by looking at her? "She's a catalog of old hip-hop tunes – it's incredible," reveals her Proposal costar Ryan Reynolds. "And she looks terrific naked."
The longtime pals – they even vacation together with spouses Jesse James, 40, and Scarlett Johansson, 24 – let it all hang out in the romantic comedy, out June 19, in which they play a boss from hell and her long-suffering assistant whose relationship changes when she schemes to avoid deportation to her native Canada. Bullock, 44, and Reynolds, 32, sat down with PEOPLE to laugh about the movie, each other and about baring it all.
You've known each other for a while. How has fame changed Ryan?
Bullock: The person I met years ago [through a friend] is the same person sitting next to me now. No change in the humility, talent, kindness. He could've become an ass----. But not a damn thing has changed, other than that his bikes get more expensive.
Reynolds: I think you have to start that way. Fame only amplifies a certain disposition.
Bullock: I agree. Unless you're a child in the industry and that's all you know. That's a sad, sad thing.
Reynolds: There's nothing worse than hearing a 6-year-old demand Voss water. I've seen it.
You and Jesse and Scarlett are all close. Why do you get along so well?
Reynolds: [To Bullock] I love that your marriage – and forgive the ineloquence here – is not for sale.
Bullock: We're very similar in that way. There's an honor and a level of integrity that exists in their home that I really admire ... [To Reynolds] I'm just happy you found a good human being. They both take excellent care of each other and they're honorable, beautiful people.
Speaking of beauty, you two are quite naked in that one scene. How was it to film?
Bullock: I'd never done one before. [To Reynolds] You?
Reynolds: I've done a couple where I've ... yeah, a little bit.
Bullock: Were they like sex scenes?
Reynolds: I don't think I've ever done one that wasn't supposed to be funny.
It's not just a nude scene. You're literally smushed up against each other.
Reynolds: Yeah – nudity and stunts. Not usually synonymous.
Comfort level aside, you'd cover up between takes, right?
Reynolds: I wasn't grazing at the snack bar without pants.
Bullock: Next to [costar] Betty White.
Reynolds: Yeah, I didn't go have lunch with Betty.
Pop quiz: what's his or her drink of choice?
Bullock: Whiskey – an old-school man drink.
Reynolds: Sandy will drink a glass of red wine. And not like the crazy expensive kind.
How does he or she take coffee?
Bullock: He takes his with cream or milk.
Reynolds: She's a green tea girl.
So working together was a good experience?
Reynolds: This kind of chemistry and fireworks ... there's nothing you can do to manufacture it, or edit it together. It's just there or it's not. And to have that every day was literally like driving a Ferrari around on set.
For more of Bullock and Reynolds's banter – on their significant others, his Canadian roots, and her love affair with a certain sweet treat – pick up this week's PEOPLE, on newsstands now.

Kendra Wilkinson, is definitely pregnant, as she confirms rumors on her blog; "hi everyone!!!! so the rumors are true…i am pregnant!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hank and i were beyond excited when we found out the news and ive been dying to tell all of you but we were waiting for the perfect time to do it. im sorry if you heard it first elsewhere…that’s not how i wanted it to happen, but im so glad its out in the open now."
What a month for Kendra Wilkinson! The former Girl Next Door star’s new show, Kendra, premiered to record numbers on Sunday and she and fiancé Hank Baskett will tie the knot on the 27th, but not before sharing their biggest news — a baby is on the way!
“Hank and I are thrilled to announce that we are expecting our first child together,” Kendra, 23, tells E!’s Mark Malkin. “We are touched by the outpouring of support by our family, friends and fans.”
No word on a due date for the baby, but names are definitely in the works! “My first initial is K and my middle name is Leigh, so we were thinking of Kaleigh,” the reality star told PEOPLE in February. “And he’s Hank Baskett III, so of course I’m going to have a Hank Baskett IV!”
Kendra and Hank, 26, a wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles, were engaged in November atop the Seattle Space Needle.
Ah, the life of a Girl Next Door: Exciting parties, glamorous photo shoots, your own TV show ... and getting sick in a limousine.
"I've thrown up in almost every limo that has taken me out in the last week," Kendra Wilkinson tells E Online of the first queasy three months of her pregnancy. "God, they hate me right now."
Wilkinson, 23, who's been craving Top Ramen noodles and fruit, had originally planned on having a baby next June – a year after her June 27 wedding to pro football player Hank Baskett – but is "so happy" to be12 weeks along. "My doctor told me I'm due on Christmas Day!" she says. "The baby is going to be spoiled with a lot more gifts."
And the wedding is going as planned, though the Playboy model says she will have to make an alteration to her dress. "My boobs went from big to humongous," she tells E!. "They're making some changes in the bust."
Pregnant Kendra Wilkinson wants to tap her ex-boyfriend Hugh Hefner to be her baby's godfather. To Marc Malkin of E! News she says that she called the Playboy boss soon after she learned she was pregnant with fiance Hank Baskett's baby while she was on the way during a layover at an Amarillo, Texas, airport.
"Hank was like, 'Hey, why don't we do a test to see, just real quick?'" she recalls. "I did it and we found out and we just sat on the baggage claim as everything hit us at once." And then "I called Hef because I had to tell him right away. He was like, 'Oh my god!' and then he cried," she continues, adding, "Hef will be 'The Godfather!'"
Spilling more details about the baby she is carrying, Kendra reveals, "I'm 12 weeks along. And my doctor told me I'm due on Christmas Day! We were actually trying to plan a June baby next year, but we're so happy that it's Christmas. The baby is going to be spoiled with a lot more gifts."
Kendra and Hank won't be finding out the sex of their baby until a couple of weeks, but they have decided on some possible names for their forthcoming first child. If it's a boy, they will name him Hank Randall Baskett IV, but if it's a girl there are two options, Arianna and Kianna. On top of all, "Whatever comes out of me, we'll love," Kendra claims.
In addition to those issues, Kendra also talks about experiencing morning sickness, her big cravings, and how her growing belly affects her wedding dress.
Get ready for a shotgun wedding: Kendra Wilkinson announced this week she is pregnant with her first child. Kendra and fiance Hank Baskett discovered they were expecting during a layover at a Texas airport. Romantic.

Kendra and Hank still plan on marrying at the Playboy mansion on June 27.
“My boobs went from big to humongous,” she jokes. “They’re making some changes in the bust.”
But her stomach isn’t showing a bump yet.
“Right now you can’t see it, but it’s there,” she says.
Kendra said they will name their child Hank Randall Baskett IV if it’s a boy, and Arianna and Kianna if it’s a girl.
Kendra's pregnancy comes during an exciting time for the former Girl Next Door. Kendra has been busy planning her wedding to football player Hank Baskett and her self-titled reality show premiered Sunday night on E!
Kendra says Hugh Hefner was one of the first people to find out about the pregnancy. "He was like, 'Oh my god!' and then he cried," Kendra told E! "...Hef will be 'The Godfather!' "
There's no word yet on whether or not Holly and Bridgette will be the baby's godmothers.
“E” reality star Kendra Wilkinson is expecting her first child with fiance Hank Baskett. Kendra is 12 weeks along and is expected to deliver her baby on Christmas day.
On a layover in Amarillo, Hank suggested they buy a test and just see. Sure enough it was positive. Kendra said they sat there stunned in baggage claim, just trying to let it all sink in.
The couple will be getting married in just 17 days at the Playboy mansion. Kendra’s wedding dress might have to be taken out just a bit.
Apparently, the morning sickness has been brutal. Stating that, every limo ride Kendra takes, she has thrown up.
The couple were hoping to have a baby next June but a Christmas baby would certainly be a wonderful gift.

Madeleine McCann Investigators Fail To Quiz Paedophile
Final attempts by Madeleine McCann investigators to speak to a convicted paedophile about her disappearance have failed.
Private detectives searching for the missing girl had hoped to speak to Raymond Hewlett, who was living in Portugal at the time of her disappearance on May 3 2007.
But negotiations with his German lawyer broke down, the McCanns' spokesman said.
Hewlett, 64, is terminally ill with cancer and is now said to be too unwell for an interview.
Retired UK policemen Dave Edgar and Arthur Cowley, who flew to Germany to speak to him, said they were "very disappointed" with the lawyer's behaviour.
Sky sources say Hewlett has been demanding thousands of pounds in cash to help the inquiry, and the McCanns have refused to pay him a penny.
Mr Edgar said: "I have been attempting to speak with Raymond Hewlett to eliminate him from our investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
"He is not a suspect but I was keen to interview him because of his failing health.
"I have tried over the past weeks to arrange this via his lawyer in Germany.
"These negotiations have been difficult for reasons which I do not want to go into detail about.
"Mr Hewlett's condition has of course been deteriorating during these negotiations.
"I travelled to Germany yesterday in a final effort to interview Raymond Hewlett. Regrettably that interview is not possible.
"From information provided by his lawyer and other sources it is obvious that his health is such that any meaningful interview would not be possible."
Mr Edgar, a former detective inspector who worked for the Royal Ulster Constabulary and Cheshire Police, said Hewlett's ability to answer questions accurately "must also be in doubt".
The detective said he had been told that the paedophile could only manage a 60-minute interview when to quiz him properly about Madeleine's disappearance would take five hours.
Mr Edgar added: "I will of course reconsider my position should Raymond Hewlett's condition allow a proper, meaningful interview to take place."
Hewlett, a former soldier who previously lived in Blackpool and Telford, has been jailed several times in the UK for sexually assaulting young girls.
