Angelina Jolie: World's Most Powerful Lady

angelina-jolie:-world's-most-powerful-ladyThe Forbes list of 100 celebrities was released today, and Angelina Jolie is number one, and supposedly that means something.

Hollywood`s most powerful celebrity actress Anjelina Jolie celebrates her 34th birthday has it all money fame, family and of course Brad Pitt if you ignore the unlikely breakup rumors. Now she can add most powerful celebrity in the world to the list as she has topped Forbes magazine’s Celebrity 100 list for the first time, as she has dethroned talk show queen Oprah Winfrey, who slipped to second place after two consecutive years at the top. Madonna’s Hard Candy world tour and continued presence in the headlines thanks to her divorce from Guy Ritchie and her new love life, helped her rise from last year’s number 21 spot to third place. The top ten is dominated by women this year, with golfer Tiger Woods being named the most powerful male celebrity at number five. Singer Beyonce Knowles rounds out the top five at number four on the list.
Angelina Jolie Tops Oprah on 2009 Forbes List of Most Powerful CelebritiesForbes takes media exposure into account, as well as entertainment-related earnings, when drawing up their Celebrity 100 list. So while Jolie brought in $27 million in the past 12 months partly thanks to movies “Kung Fu Panda,” and “Wanted,” Oprah raked in a staggering $275 million in the last year, making her the list’s top earner. Jolie’s partner Brad Pitt came in ninth place, just behind his ex-wife, former Friends star Jennifer Aniston, who took eighth position. Barack Obama made the list at number 49, as the first sitting head of state to land on the Celebrity 100.

The actress grabbed the No. 1 spot from the talk show queen on the magazine's annual Celebrity 100 list, which ranks the rich and famous based on media exposure and career earnings over the past year.

Jolie, a reigning tabloid fixture, earned $27 million, bumping her up from third place on last year's list, Forbes said, adding that she wields more power due to high-profile turns in hit films such as "Wanted" and "Kung Fu Panda."

At No. 2, Winfrey is still the highest earner _ $275 million.

Madonna came in third, trailed by Beyonce, Tiger Woods, Bruce Springsteen and Steven Spielberg.

Two other celebs tied up in Jolie's tabloid universe _ Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt _ came in at eighth and ninth place, respectively.

Tenth place goes to Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant, thanks in part to endorsement deals scored after the Beijing Olympics.

About halfway down the list sits a very familiar face: President Barack Obama. At No. 49, Obama's the first sitting head of state to appear on this Forbes fixture because of his worldwide fame, his historic election and his career as a best-selling author.

Newcomers to the list: Alec Baldwin (No. 91); Meryl Streep (No. 64); Toby Keith (No. 59); Rascal Flatts (No. 42); TV host Glenn Beck (No. 81); and teen singing superstar Taylor Swift (No. 69).

Although he's one of the biggest acts in entertainment, Justin Timberlake went from 12th to falling off the list completely, since ending his lucrative "FutureSex/LoveShow" concert tour.

The superstar beat the billionaire because of the media frenzy she had the past year: good will deeds, 2 1/2 hit movies (Salt isn't in theaters yet, but we assume it will be mind boggling) and of course, punching out some cute twins.

Her total net worth for the year was $27 million. She spent most of it on diapers and dresses for awards shows where she didn't win anything.

Meanwhile, though dropping to the #2 spot, Oprah Winfrey raked in much more moolah, $275 million to be exact. Damn! We'd come in 2nd any day for that kind of dough.

Rounding out the top five is our favorite Material Girl, Madonna at #3, followed by Beyonce, and finally Tiger Woods.

Angie's boy toy, Brad Pitt, came in at #9, Twilight author Stephenie Meyer snagged #26, and President Barack Obama debuts on the list at #49.

Hmm, that means there are 48 people more powerful than the President of our country.

Angelina Jolie is now the most powerful celebrity in the world, taking the No. 1 spot on Forbes' 2009 Celebrity 100 list, which ranks stars from the film, TV, music and sports worlds based on entertainment-related earnings as well as exposure in the media.

This pushes Oprah Winfrey, who held the top spot for two consecutive years, down to No. 2 on a list dominated by females.

Being in the spotlight throughout the past 12 months brought Jolie to the top of the list. However, Winfrey remains the highest-paid, earning $275 million over the past year, compared with Jolie's $27 million.

Huh? I already didn't get it, and then they tried to explain it and I more didn't get it. Being in the spotlight throughout the past 12 months makes Jolie the most powerful? She has lazer-cannons for eyes now or something? Her grip is like a vice and her hair has the tensile strength of a spider's web? Seriously, I don't understand. At least Oprah has a highly-watched television show through which she broadcasts and explores her ideas and opinions on a daily basis. She has (and uses) the capacity to influence her viewers' spending choices, reading choices, charitable notions, and instantly bestow increased celebrity on the guests she choses. That is a sort of power. Angelina Jolie was in Wanted, and she was terrible. I know that she went on a tour of the U.N. cafeteria once or something, but come on. Barack Obama is #49? This list was literally put together by making a cat wander over a field of 100 names on a living room carpet. Play yourself off, living room randomizer cat.

Apparently Oprah can’t compete with the media attention Angelina Jolie gets, and that’s why she’s number 2 this year on Forbes 100 most powerful celebrities list.

Jolie worked her way up to the number one spot by earning a cool $27 million in the past 12 months thanks to her movies Kung Fu Panda, Wanted, and the upcoming Salt. She also has managed, much to our annoyance, to stay in the spot light since giving birth to twins, and her and Brad are constantly in the headlines. Oprah never had a chance!

Beyonce Knowles, who married her long-term beau, rapper Jay-Z, last year, came fourth after making $87 million.

Golfer Tiger Woods was deemed the most powerful athlete in the world, after his $110 million earnings secured him the final place in the top five.

Jennifer Aniston – who endured a high-profile split from John Mayer earlier this year - polled eighth after making $25 million, beating her ex-husband Brad who finished ninth with $28 million.

Barack Obama is the first US President to ever appear on the list, coming in at number 49.

Other notable inclusions include 16-year-old ‘Hannah Montana’ actress Miley Cyrus at number 29, rapper 50 Cent at number 50 and Drew Barrymore who took the 87th spot.
